6th Warsaw Jewish Film Festival` 08, Nov. 4-9  

This year the 6. edition of the Warsaw Jewish Film Festival, organized in Poland since 2003, focuses on films starring late Gustaw Holoubek which feature the actor's  unforgettable and remarkable roles.

The Festival will be held in Warsaw, in KINOTEKA and the screening room of SGH (Warsaw School of Economics), between November 4 and 9, 2008.

During this year we plan to present ca. 44 films and documentaries   all Eastern European premieres. Many of the films have already premiered and have been awarded at BERLINALE, CANNES, JERUSALEM FILM FESTIVAL, TORONTO FILM FESTIVAL, THE ACADEMY OF MOTION PICTURE ARTS AND SCIENCES and more. Our Festival will be concluded with the DAVID CAMERA award ceremony and the screening of LITTLE TRAITOR, based on an AMOS OZ novel. Film director LYNN ROTH, actor ALFRED MOLINA (Salma Hayek  s partner in FRIDA) and THEODORE BIKEL are expected at the presence.

Our Festival is just less than 6 years old but it already has outstanding achievements and is the most recognized festival in this part of Europe. Between 2003 and 2007 we screened 364 films (including 250 competition films and 114 non-competition films) from ca. 28 countries. The film presented at the Festival include the nominees and winners of the Oscars, the Cannes Palmes d  Or, the Berlinale Bears, the Karlovy Vary Festival awards and the EMMY awards, as well as other international film festivals. Ari Sandler, winner of the 2006 David Camera award for  West Bank Story , won the 2007 Oscar for his film in the same category. Our 5th edition in 2007 was also successful   we screened two films nominated for the 2008 Academy Awards (Best Foreign Language Film): KATYN (Poland) and BEAUFORT (Israel). Our guests included: Irvin Kershner ( The Empire Strikes Back )   2004 Jury Chairman, Laios Koltai, Amos Gitai (2005 Cannes Palme d  Or winner), Slava and Lina Chaplin (Charlie Chaplin  s family members), John Daly (Hollywood film producer)   2005 Jury Chairman, Daniela Weber (Berlinale), Agnes Varda, Grace Guggenheim   2006 Jury Chairwoman, Janusz Kaminski, Ilana Sharon   2007 Jury Chairwomen from Israel, and many others.
The 2008 - 2003 Honorary David Camera Awards went to Steven Spielberg, Woody Allen, Roman Polanski, Andrzej Wajda and the late Gustaw Holoubek.

Furthermore, our uniqueness is signified by the fact that the representatives of Israel and Palestine, Prof. Shevah Weiss and Dr. Khalil Nazzal and film director Jamal Dajani conducted peace negotiations after the screening of Palestinian films during the 4th Festival edition in 2006.

The series of films presented at our Festival include series of educational films for children and youth, JOHN PAUL II AND THE JEWISH PEOPLE from TV VATICANA, war films, musicals, love stories, dramas, portraits, animated films, documentaries and fiction.
The deadline for submitting films for competition selection is September 10, 2008 (post stamp date checks validity). The films should be sent to:

The 2008 Festival Grand Prix of EUR 2,800 has been funded by the Chairman of TVP (Polish Television). Information about other awards can be found on-line at www.wjff.pl
On October 24, 2008 at noon a press conference will be held in Kinoteka. It will be preceded by the opening of an exhibition titled HOLOUBEK, dedicated to Gustaw Holoubek.
